August 2000
The next meeting is Sunday, October 1st,
at Harrison's Comics & Collectibles in Salem from 2pm to 5 pm. The last official meeting was
August 6th at Harrison Comic's in Salem, MA. The members talked about the soon to be launched web site for
the club (more on that later...) But let's get to the kits...

Charlie Kuphal always has a lot to offer in
the way of collectibles and hard-to-find gems, and this meeting was no exception. Charlie brought a 1/1
scale "Lizzie" from Tales From the
Darkside, sculpted by Tom Savini and a set of collector's knives
of Universal Monsters (I don't think Charlie's "keepers" allow him to handle these without the Hannibal
Lector Security outfit). Nick Demakes made an appearance after too long an
absence, converting the Horizon
Spiderman 2009 into a Batman Beyond figure. Neal DeConte had the Sleepy Hollow/Christopher Walken
bust and hollowed out the head and will add real hair and glass eyes! Also Neal had the Geometric
"Tremors" kit and the Gothic Haus Design "Exorcist"
(a real head turner!...sorry.) In addition,
Neal brought photos from Wonderfest in Louisville. Keith Mulholland stopped in to say hi (rumor has it Keith is
getting a full body tattoo of faux marble) Adam DeConte checked in with the lil' Jason from m1 and Bryan
DeConte with the Mad Lab's Metaluna Mutant. Always a crowded work bench at the DeConte home!
Jay Gordon
seems to fall into some great deals, and a trip to
Ebay got him a $40 Dark Horse Wolfman, usually a $150 and
up kit! Ovi Raffa painted up the Shawn Nagle Gorilla Soldier from Planet of the Apes. Ovi's work just keeps
getting better all the time as he nailed the paint job on all aspects of the piece, from Gorilla to horse! Our
youngest member, Anthony Annese, had the Toy Biz Wolverine and the "Kathoga" from the Relic.
Anthony's uncle, John Delamere, makes my fingers sore from typing all the projects and conversions he's
working on, so I'll add some more blisters to the fingers... John sculpted an optional hand with shotgun for
"The Crow" from Inteleg. This makes the piece look more realistic than the static pose the Studio
insisted on. Also from John, "Bast" the Egyptian
Goddess, again using numerous parts from
different kits to bring it all together. Another "bashed beauty" was made from a Sam Greenwell bust
and a Catwoman corset, mix in Fewtures "Avira"'s arms and the hips from Sugita's "Mother,"
equals a hot lookin' female! Arnold from Predator was created using the legs of the GeoMetric Wolfman and
the feet from an action figure. John is a mermaid fan, and a King Triton piece was in order, so...add a body from
a Royo Warrior from Elfin and the ears from Jar-Jar Binks
for fins and voila! King Triton (see pic above!). The man
is relentless at "bashing," I think he has maybe.... maybe....3 or 4 kits that he's NOT bashed!
A couple of newcomers stopped in: Jay (a friend of Ovi's) and Jim Slabacheski. Jim is on his way to
California to live, but had to stop in to see the madness. Robert Butler, resident reference man and modeler,
brought the Kaiyodo T-Rex and Allosaurus as well as the Spawn Dark Ages "Mandarin" action figure.
Traci Briery is working on converting Star Wars action figures to Jedi Council members and had a number of
Grenadier kits for sale or trade. Special Thanks to Traci for taking the initiative and starting work on the club
web site. Once things settle in, we'll get some of us working on the site as well. September 17th,
Lowell, MA IPMS/PATCON Show East Coast Figure Artists score big at the Patriot Chapter yearly event.
Neal, Adam and Bryan DeConte took awards; John Delamere and Rob Valentino also walked off with
well-deserved awards for their work. The ECFA had a table at the show and may have roped in some new
members! We Welcome Al LaFleche, Russ Norman, Andy Petrahai and Doug DeRienzeto to the
on-line newsletter. Doug has a very cool modeling site of his own at: http://dougd.hispeed.com Check it
out! Hey,the next chance for the club to get out and compete is the GraniteCon show on October
15th in Nashua. But, be sure to show up Sunday, October 1st, for the next ECFA meeting, bring in your latest
work, sell or trade kits, bring in reference material...just bring yourself and any other victims you think might
be interested!
